VOLUNTEERING IN AFRICA, IN CONGO (DEM. REP. OF)

Exactly what work will I be doing?
Empower
women; feeding programme; agricultural work; youth work; parents meeting; human rights; creating small jobs; ....
2. Does the organisation work with a local partner
organisation?
It is very important to consider how you as a volunteer might
be perceived by the host community with whom you will be working and living. This is the list of host communities
· The community host is a
church community called Bethlehem Ephrata Matete in Kinshasa (Capital of the Dem. Rep. of Congo). Bethlehem Matete is part
of the Assembly of God organisation. They are Christian, Protestant but open people from different background. Main

Another
community host is Restoration Ministries, which is based in Kinshasa and different regions. The organisation got churches,
bible school, and development projects. Main contact: Pastor Timothee Moshi, Degree Bachelor BA(Hons) in Bible Studies and

GALD,
which is a NGO based in DR Congo with vulnerable people to empower them. Main contact: Lievin Mabengi and Engineer PANGU.
Pangu got a Degree in Development and agriculture; he works with the government to implemented development’s projects
in the Country.

ADSAD;
a human rights organisation based in Kinshasa and different regions. It promotes human rights and helps detainees; give training
and visit prisoners. Main contact: Jean Claude Ngangu. Ngandu is a lawyer and work as a barrister. www.adsad.org

3. Does the organisation make
any financial contribution to its volunteer programmes?
Yes. You
pay for your travel expenses and food; and our organisation will provided the accommodation.
4.
What time frame is the volunteer programme run on? It Depend on you and host community. It
could be for One week; Two week or One month. But be flexible please.
5. What support & training
will I receive? The better prepared you are the better volunteer you will be. We will make your job description
together and the return briefings will be taken because we are interested in your attitudes and contribution.
6.
Are you ready to take responsibility for your own health & safety? There is a list vaccine you
have to take before to travel in tropical region, especially for the Malaria. You will be will with our local team. Do not
worry; many volunteers are been in DR Congo before you. You can meet them to discuss some issues or for any advice.
7. Meet people from DR Congo and
learn about culture differences
Your time overseas can start before you even
leave home. Preparation before travelling to a new country can help you to deal with any 'culture shock' you
may experience and can ensure that you and those you are working with get the most out of your time overseas. Please

8. Ask question if you want to learn
Having the attitude that you are in a placement to learn, rather that just to help, can be a useful point
from which to start asking the questions that will contribute to your knowledge and understanding.
